Abstract
While a variety of books (Franks, 1969; Lazarus, 1971; Krumboltz and Thoresen, 1969; Wolpe, 1973) and papers (Kanfer, 1972; Krasner, 1966; Gelder, 1968; Cahoon, 1968) have discussed specific aspects of the individual behavior therapy process, a comprehensive description and analysis of the entire course of behavior therapy with individuals is lacking. This paper focuses in detail on the specific phases of the individual behavioral treatment prowess, including: goaIs and rationale; behavioral assessment; choice of treatment techniques; problems encountered; the therapist-client intervention; and evaluation of treatment outcome. This investigation is oriented primarily toward the non-behaviorally oriented clinician and beginning practitioner of behavior modification.
