Abstract
Certain examinations of the crowd in the social upheavals of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries have contributed to the formation of interpretations of these upheavals. For example, David Pinkney's study of the crowd in the French Revolution of 1830 has challenged the notion that the Revolution was effected by the Parisian Bourgeoisie.
