Abstract
The history of Italy during the first seventy-five years of the Fifth Century is a study of the end of the Roman Empire in the West. It is a study of the forces of dissolution that were at work, and the chaotic results these forces were to leave in Italy. Italian history during this period is really a history of much of the Roman Empire, since the events that occurred in many parts of the Empire were connected and had a great influence on Italy.
