Abstract
The following paper deals with the Treaty of Chicago between the United Nation of Chippewa, Ottawa, and Potawatomi Indians , on the one part, and the United States of America on the other.
The format is to present all the relevant documents leading to the Treaty, the negotiations in Chicago between September 10, 1833 to October 7, 1833, the alterations in the Treaty and the relevant correspondence, the final draft of the Treaty, events in the Senate, and the removal itself. Interspersed will be comments which I hope will clarify the questions raised in the mind of the reader. At the same time they will serve to explain obscured or by-passed by the Treaty documents.
