Abstract
One of the most significant events of mediaeval history from the sixth century to the latter eighth century was the invasion and conquest of Italy by the Lombards. Italian unity was destroyed by the geographical results of the invasions and the country's political, social, and religious development was greatly influenced by them. Of the barbarians invading Italy, the Lombards were perhaps one of the most important tribes. Their influence on Italian history was great and their invasion colorful.
