Abstract
This study was made in an attempt to compare the gains in spelling achievement of two eighth grade classes taught by different methods of instruction, and to evaluate their relative effectiveness. The test-study method which utilized the teaching machine technique was compared with the study-test method. Measurement was based on standardized achievement test scores. It is hoped that the results of this investigation may be used as a determining factor in the choice of a more suitable method of teaching spelling in the elementary schools taught by the Sisters of St. Benedict, St. Bede's Priory, Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
