Abstract

The number of pupils enrolled in American High Schools today constitutes a much larger proportion of the total population of high school age than it did thirty years ago. This means that the high school teacher today is confronted with a greater range of talent in his classes than ever before. This extension has taken place largely at the lower end of the scale of mental ability.
