Abstract
Since its birth, electroencephalography has mainly been concerned with the passive monitoring of the spontaneous, brain-generated potentials present on the scalp of an individual. These EEG signals are recorded on paper and analyzed. After a considerable time delay, qualitative results of the analysis may be used for diagnostic purposes and in some cases may be relayed back to the individual.
