Abstract
This paper is intended to be a statement on some Scriptural and theological foundations for religious vocation as a specification of Baptismal commitment.
To lay the foundation for this statement, the universal call to holiness is first described. The paper then deals with how religious life fits into the spectrum of the universal vocation. It also explores those elements basic to such a particularization, namely vows and community. It is obvious that books could be--and in fact have been- written about any one of these topics. It is the purpose of this paper to give a unified, and necessarily briefer, description of these elements as they fit into the total picture of religious vocation.
