Abstract

Changes in the health care delivery system have resulted in children with complex medical and nursing needs being cared for in the home. Successful management of the care requires coordination and education of multiple health care professionals and families. A Pediatric Nurse Coordinator is needed to address these needs and implement programs which will provide children with comprehensive home care. This essay reviews the nursing literature relative to the educational needs of the pediatric patient and family, and also the implementation of current home care programs. The conclusion is a job description of the Pediatric Nurse Coordinator including a job summary, requirements, and responsibilities.
