Abstract
In his publication of Einheit in der Kirche in 1925, Johann Adam Moehler affirmed the Romantic era's most dominating principle--unity--by working out an ecclesiology based on the unity of God with man, man with man, and man with the entire universe. In his work he proposes to present a true picture of man--one whose humanity reaches fulfillment only by actively living out his inextricable relation to God and man. For him it was impossible to speak of man without God and to speak of God without recognizing his presence in the entire universe. This understanding of man became the framework in which he worked out his early ecclesiology. This paper will examine the relationship between Moehler 's theological anthropology and the ecclesiology he developed in his Einheit in der Kirche.
