Abstract

There has been increased concern about the time and effort expended to develop the potential for growth in each and every student in the school systems of the United States. Some educators feel that today's schools are detrimental to such growth and also that there is a complete neglect of practices which, if instituted, could do much to foster growth. There are other educators who would not recognize either detrimental or deficient practices in this area and who seek to maintain or re-invigorate the older conception of education as concerned solely with intellectual and mental discipline.
