Abstract
Much research, in the form of statistical analyses and personal evaluations has been conducted in recent years in an attempt to analyze the implications of language deficits in relation to intelligence and achievement of the deaf. The purpose of this project is to briefly examine some procedures and results that have been documented. The major areas of emphasis include: 1) an overview of deafness; 2) definition of language; 3) history and theories of language acquisition; 4) language and the deaf; 5) case studies.
