Abstract

The further development of guidance programs in Catholic education is a challenge. With national interest currently centered on the importance of guidance, there is evidence that Catholic schools are making some efforts to improve their guidance programs. This is being done in the face of the ever-changing world of automation, population mobility, shifting manpower requirements and many emotional stresses. Improvement is also being made in response to the urgings of researchers such as Dr. James Lee whose review of the research evidence between 1955 and 1965 concludes that guidance in the Catholic High Schools "is quite bleak when judged according to professional standards." He urges greater and more vigorous attention to be given to upgrade Catholic education in general and guidance in particular.
