Abstract
In recent years much attention has focused on the girls' athletic program i. e. the interscholastic competition between teams composed of girls and representing the high schools which the girls attend. During the l960's girls' sports moved from physical education classes and intramurals into athletics which has generally been identified with boys sports. Thus, the importance of organizing and administering girls' athletics in order to provide for this type of program is paramount.
In view of the interest in girls' athletics throughout the nation, the purpose of this study is to investigate the organization and the administration of a high school girls' athletic conference. This organization is affected by the passage of federal laws, by regulations of state athletic associations, and by boy's athletic conferences which are already established. In addition, the administration of girls' athletics involves not only the coaches, but also the athletic directors, the principal, and the state athletic association: all providing problems which require solution before the establishment of an athletic conference for girls can be effected.
