Abstract

The spirit of Pope John XXIII lives on as the Church and seeks to renew itself through the Second Ecumenical Council. Before the eyes of the world the Church is examining itself in the light of the changing world in which we live. In the same spirit the Catholic minor seminaries are examining their old ways and trying to adapt to the changing world in which they must function. The minor seminary for adolescent boys is the concern of this thesis. One of the criticisms leveled against this institution concerns the opportunity of the adolescent minor seminarians to mature in their adjustment to the opposite sex. This thesis is an attempt to discover if the accusation which is implied is well founded, and, if so, what means can be taken to assist the minor seminarian to achieve a more adequate adjustment in this area. The alumni priests who were ordained since 1956 and the graduates of St. Lawrence Seminary now in major seminaries cooperated in the study. More than 80 per cent responded to the questionnaire sent them. The great majority took time to add special comments which are incorporated into the thesis.
