Abstract

In recent years, nursing has attempted to develop concepts and principles derived from basic sciences on which to determine nursing practices. This trend constantly reminds nurses to relate their activities to scientific principles and pose to themselves this question, "What is the rationale underlying this action?" The quest for as answer demands increasingly comprehensive knowledge of the sciences in our highly scientific and technological world. Current nursing textbooks and literature give evidence that superficial answers often underlie nursing action.
