Abstract

As stated in the Acknowledgments, the major portion of this work was presented at the Capuchin Education Conference held in March, 1970. That conference topic was a direct result of Proposal Number Sixteen of the June, 1970, Renewal Chapter of the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order, which will be dealt with in Chapter One. The only prefatory remarks needed here are the following:

In this study there is no record shown of the opinion of the present student body. In this age of student participation in administrative decisions, it may appear as a blatant oversight. However, I do not believe that to be true. The opinions of the St. Francis student body were surveyed in May of 1969 when the rumor was circulated that the Brothers School and the Seminary were going to be merged in September of 1969. High emotions were expressed since the students and resident faculty of St. Francis have a deep attachment to that campus. It seems that some in the administrative positions of St. Lawrence had voiced an opinion to the student body and that is where the rumor had started.
