Abstract

If one were to peruse representative works of English literature, especially of the eighteenth century, one would possess sufficient knowledge to ascertain the evolution of English society forming and being formed by its philosophies, socio-economic structures, and religious sympathies. Although the space occupied by English painting in a History of World Art book is relatively insignificant, I believe one would still be able to formulate a generally accurate concept of English culture through a study of her major artistic figures.
