Abstract

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a growing health care problem which has had great impact upon nursing education. The National League for Nursing has stressed the importance of including AIDS in the curriculum in order to educate and protect the student and society. This program incorporates AIDS into the curriculum through the development of three separate self-learning modules. Module one is designed for the entry level student. Module two is intended for use by the junior level student. Module three is to be incorporated into the senior level of the nursing curriculum Each module contains a pretest, self-learning checks and a post test based upon identified behavioral objectives. Mastery learning is the basis for this program. The learner will be able to repeat the module as many times as necessary for mastery to occur. The learning modules incorporate the National League for Nursing guidelines as well as Centers for Disease Control recommendations.
