Abstract
The nation is at the crossroads of the mathematical movement. Today one must stop, look and listen before deciding what path will lead him on the road to best satisfy the needs of our scholastic environment.
The changes now taking place in the field of mathematics are so far-reaching in their implications, and so profound that it would be best to describe it as a revolution. A vigorous movement is now under way to reexamine and modify the teaching of mathematics and the area of mathematics in general. The purpose of this movement is to bring the teaching of mathematics up-to-date by taking into account the changes that have taken place in mathematics. The improvement of instruction of mathematics is a never ending process. Those participating in this process must keep looking at mathematics, and then at the schools and then repeat the process. Taking another look at the new mathematics will bring about some new insights into what must be done to improve the effective teaching of mathematics.
