Abstract

This is an analytical study of the social relations of a Fifth Grade Class in the Milwaukee Public Schools.

Whenever a number of children are brought together of school age and do things together cliques are formed and a gradual emergence of child society will be noticed. Being together builds up feelings toward one another and implies different roles for different individuals in the group. The fact that it is important to have a feeling of belonging is recognized by most people who deal with children. The value derived from the mental health point of view is the development of the whole personality of the child.

It is important then to know the nature of friendship, how it arises, its functions, meaning and value. A better understanding of the relationship is essential to our knowledge of the psychological development of the child.
