Abstract

Generally speaking, the concentration of this present work is in judging whether or not children in elementary school can participate in a reading program based on similar symbolic form but differing in audio response, and continue the learning process without confusion. Such a situation would exist when the native language and a foreign language would be presented in a similar teaching program. Within recent years many school systems have incorporated foreign language programs in their elementary grades in varying degrees. Literature concerning the advisability, time for and manner of teaching a second language presents many diversified opinions. The opinions concerning the grade level at which the foreign language should be introduced are equally varied.
