Abstract
At the dawn of the year A.D. 400, those tribes who were to establish the barbaric kingdoms in Spain during the fifth and sixth centuries had not yet reached the Iberian Peninsula. However, within a single decade the barbaric Visigoths in the south, burst across the northern boundary of Italy and threatened Imperial Rome herself. Simultaneously, the Vandals, Suevi, and Alani, all massed east of the Rhine, forced their way across this river, and poured into Gaul and thence into Spain.
