Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to study the past and present proceedings of one particular parish school board in order to arrive at conclusions regarding its effectiveness thus far in implementing Archdiocesan policy regarding local policy- making boards, especially with regard to the following: 1) Has the pastor's leadership been positive and supportive? Has he fostered the growth of the Christian educational community by seeing that the Christian message is presented according to the mind of the church and the contemporary needs of the students? 2) What kind of tone has been set by the principal; what kind of atmosphere has she created? Has she communicated with the board openly and honestly? 3) Have board members kept in mind the distinction between the policy-making function of the board and the administrative function of the principal? How have board members handled confidences? Have complaints of an administrative nature been referred to the principal? Have members based their votes upon all available facts in each situation, for the welfare of the children, unswayed by partisan bias? Have members sold the school to the public?
