Abstract

There is no doubt that the first and foremost influence in a child's life is his family. "No catechist will have lasting influence on a child if he works against (or simply parallel to) the family and if he knows nothing of its attitudes and situations." Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate by means of parental opinion the effectiveness of a program on preparing children for the reception of first Holy Communion in which the primary role was assumed by the parents. This program was introduced in Holy Ghost Parish, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The investigator was concerned mainly with parental attitudes toward the program, judgment by parents of the children's reactions to the individualized reception of the Sacrament, and benefits of the program. The study further attempted to discover from suggestions offered by parents ways to improve the present program.
