Abstract

Management has regarded the acquisition of capital assets as a decision of considerable importance that requires the considered opinions and financial expertise of manufacturing, financial and administrative people from all levels within an organization. The spending of $10,000 for a machine justifiably merits much analysis, investigation and discussion.

When companies hire a manager or promote an employe to a management position, an investment of perhaps $250,000 during that man's career with the organization could be at stake. Yet the work of selection is given little more thought and attention than the filing of a letter. Each time a company hires a new employe or promotes a man, a critical decision is being made -- one that could influence the future characteristics, success and profitability of one segment of the company -- or quite possibly the company as a whole.
