Abstract

While there are clearly other references to the church under other titles and in allusions, this study will be limited to those passages which use the word, "Church", and passages directly related. The word is used in two major ways: First, in the sense most familiar to us, meaning the whole universal church; and second, to designate individual communities within this larger whole. In most examples of both cases, it is clear that the word indicates a specific group of people who belong to God and have a common link with Jesus Christ.
