Abstract

Purpose of the Study: The investigator was interested in trying to acquire a better understanding of the "problem" boy who is in a residential treatment institution in regard to his attitude toward school at the time of his placement. Source of Information and Procedure: An attitude scale was administered to a group of fifty five boys in a treatment institution at the time of their placement. Each of the items on the scale asked a particular question concerning the boy 's attitude toward school. A list of responses was provided and the boy was to indicate the answer that best suited him. Subsequently the responses to each question were converted into percentage values. Each question was evaluated in the light of the investigator's actual knowledge of the boys through their actual record performance and past problems in school.
