Abstract
Among Georg Cantor's (1845-1918) contributions to the growth and history of mathematics was his development of set theory, particularly infinite sets. He saw a real number as the limit of an equivalence class of Cauchy' sequences of rationals. He astounded his contemporaries by proving that there are as many algebraic numbers as there are natural numbers. He created the transfinite numbers and the arithmetic of transfinite numbers. Thus he filled the gap from Zeno to h1s own present day regarding Wini ty and continuity.
