Abstract
Many applications of digital filters require fast and efficient processing of data to meet real-time constraints . Block digital filters are a class of infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filters which possess a high degree of parallelism, and are more efficient than scalar structures. This essay deals with various structures for these types of filters and their advantages. In Chapter 1 block digital filters are introduced and their background is presented. Chapter 2 presents some of the early block structures that were used as a basis for current research. Chapter 3 presents structures of more recent work in the area. In Chapter 4 the ways in which the block length can be chosen are presented along with the computational advantages of block strucures. Chapter 5 summarizes the conclusions of this essay
