Abstract
This essay is intended to contribute in a modest way to the current thinking on the business cycle. Business cycle analysis has and is undergoing considerable change. Our goal is to some day avoid t,he cataclysmic upheavals of' the past by a better and more thorough knowledge of' the business cycle. Part I presents the historical background of' business cycle theory along with method and approach taken to the business cycle. The philosophy of' the approach has changed greatly due in large part to the revolution in economic thinking led by John Maynard Keynes. It has been my purpose to give special emphasis to the method and approach to the business cycle. Part II is devoted to the exposition of' my interpretation of' the data which is observed in reality. It is hoped that a generalization can be made that will actually be applicable to realistic situations.
