Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to interrelate the first chapter of Paul's Epistle to the Ephesians and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin's The Phenomenon of Man. As this is a paper in Christian theology, and as Holy Scripture is the norm of Christian theology, this paper will be an attempt to answer the two-fold question: What is Paul saying in this chapter, and does Teilhard' s work say what Paul is saying? As Teilhard' s work is of such a different order from P'aul's, this question will not often have a simple yes-no answer. We must often determine whether Teilhard is saying less than Paul, more than Paul--in that he is in his own way legitimately supplementing a Pauline notion, and whether he is ever in contradiction to Paul. As the writer believes general agreement is to be found between these two works, this agreement will not always be made explicit. It is Teilhard's inadequacies, expansions, and contradictions that will bring explicit comment.
