Abstract
Medical imaging devices invariably generate large digital image files. Data compression of these medical images can reduce storage requirements and transmission times. The search for a technique that will provide a high rate of compression while retaining a desired level of image fidelity continues. Vector quantization, a powerful speech compression technique, has just recently been applied to the problem of technique compression efficient compression advantages image compression. The details of are explained using a model of a system. Proposals are offered for use of vector quantization in the of medical images. A comparison of and disadvantages of the technique, this data more data the and the data compression requirements of a medical imaging environment are presented.
