Abstract

With the European Common Market American business has had one of its most serious economic challenges since World War II. At the same time, this economic and political union offers new opportunities to those American entrepreneurs wishing to participate in what is likely to be a renaissance of the economy of Western Europe, an area of the free world many consider second only to the United States in terms of its present and potential prosperity. In recent years the number of .American businesses that have established operations in Europe has kept increasing. In many cases these firms have had to comply with local regulations and use the existing economic institutions. This paper is an attempt to highlight one particular aspect of business, that of corporation financing and more precisely the subscription and sale of securities. This work was based upon two chapters taken from "La Technique du Financement des Entreprises" by Urbain J. Vaes, Professor at the University of Louvain and head of the Institut des Sciences Economiques Appliquees.
