Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of prior knowledge on the quality of reading miscues and comprehension of average and poor second grade readers. It is predicted that with prior knowledge instruction, both poor and average readers will make fewer miscues that affect the meaning of text and will have higher scores on comprehension questions than the same students reading text where prior knowledge was not developed.
