This story culminates in the Reader kneeling beside a dying friend, grief and confusion waring for focus, which obviously harkens back to the provided image. Of course, in my piece, the Reader undergoes a transformation in that moment into something arguably not fully human anymore as a result. (Apologies for overexplaining, but my Dad didn't seem to quite understand the ending, and I love clarity...)
As for the relation to the theme of "Emotions and Coping Mechanisms," I wrote this piece the night Technoblade's video "so long nerds" dropped. It was only the second time a "celebrity" death made me feel anything, and the resulting grief was so much stronger than when Leonard Nimoy had died back in 2015; it felt like an actual friend had left the world. What can I say, parasocial relationships can pack quite a punch.
This story is a tribute to Techo's work, and the many happy hours it brought me. Silly though it may be, pouring out these words was my way of saying goodbye to a man who never met me, yet managed to make me both laugh and cry.
