Abstract
This is Frederick S. Frank's marvelous survey of the Sadleir-Black Gothic collection when it was held by the rare book department of the Alderman Library at the University of Virginia. Approximately one-third of the collection is comprised of chapbooks. Frank gives a history of the collection, which explains how the materials were gathered, and thereby provides an invaluable insight for chapbook scholars. Although Frank himself was not keenly interested in the chapbooks, his work prompted Diane Long Hoeveler to pick up where he left off, delving more thoroughly into the chapbooks in her article "More Gothic Gold."
