Abstract
Cultural Encounters of the Civil War Era is an innovative digital project that is supported by H-Net: Humanities and Social Sciences Online, one of the longest-running and most widely used digital platforms in the humanities and social sciences. All chapters included in this anthology make original arguments that take a close look at diverse cultural interactions that in turn illuminate the ways in which the Civil War–era United States (ca. 1830–ca. 1890) was embedded in a wider world. The essays in Cultural Encounters of the Civil War Era are published online on a rolling basis, where the finalized volume will reside as an open-access E-Book. H-Net has provided crucial support in terms of copyediting, access to their publishing platform, and oversight.
