Abstract
Most frugivorous birds eat a wide range of different fruit sizes (Leighton 1982) and frugivorous and folivorous primates typically feed from many different tree species (Clutton-Brock and Harvey 1977). Insectivores show more specialized feeding behaviour than frugivores and folivores. Insects are under strong selection for cryptic patterning or behavior (Robinson 1969) and thus promote specialization in their predators. Many of the pioneer tree species that recolonize recently logged forest are not of species used as food sources by most mammals and birds (Chivers 1980). Most frugivores and folivores who normally travel long distances in the course of their daily activities are generalized feeders and are unlikely to be constrained by logging.
