Abstract
The purpose of my thesis is an analysis of Benjamin Disraeli's novels in order to discover his personal convictions about the Roman Catholic Church as an institution, and about Catholicism as a religion, in an age of religious agitation in England. I have used in part Disraeli's political speeches and personal correspondence, and his biography of Lord George Bentinck. My major concern, however, has been with the study of his novels to gain an insight into his own personal feelings toward Catholicism.
