Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to trace the reputation of John Keats in America between 1821 and 1900. The method has been to examine comments published in periodicals by reviewers and others, and in letters and journals of literary men and such others as I have been able to procure. I have not used studies in foreign periodicals which circulated in the united States, as I consider such European and not American judgement. I was unable to find any American comment on Keats during his life time. Allusions to Keats and to his works became a part of American criticism soon after the publication of his first biography, 1848.
