Abstract
This paper will attempt to discover what Alice Brown has to say in her short stories about her vision of life; it will attempt to reveal what she has discovered about the pattern of life, what she thinks important about that pattern, her interpretation of what she has discovered, and her purpose in revealing the expression of her observations. It will deal, incidentally, as illustration of the whole movement of which she is a part, with her association in the field of interpretation of the New England Indian summer, as the period between 1865 and 1915 has been titled by one of our critics. It will also have something to say about the reason for the obscurity of Alice Brown as a writer.
