Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to determine whether the pilgrim motif as it is used by Sir Thomas Malory in the Morte d'Arthur gives an idealized picture of the period of the Crusades and Romances, or is a realistic presentation of fifteenth century life, and incidentally whether it sheds any light on Malory's biography or gives any indication of his attitude toward Lollardy.
