Abstract
The purpose of this thesis has been to study the dramatic methods evolved by Maxwell Anderson in his book of essays, Off Broadway, and their use in his plays in order to evaluate the playwright's contribution to the American theater. To insure a thorough investigation of this problem, Anderson's early realistic dramas were also reviewed, and a survey of contemporary criticism on Maxwell Anderson and his drama was made as well.
