Abstract
In 1928 Dr. Annabel Newton wrote a dissertation on Wordsworth in Early American Criticism limiting the scope of her treatise to the period between 1824 and 1860. It is my task to collect and examine comments published in American periodicals to discover America's attitude toward Wordsworth in the period between 1861 and 1899. Besides the Wordsworth articles by American reviewers, many reprints from English magazines appeared in the American magazines, particularly in Littell's Living Age and the Eclectic Magazine. These I have also examined because the English reprints in our American magazines have largely colored American thinking, and have exerted no little influence in guiding the literary tastes of the American reading public.
