Abstract
It is the purpose of this thesis to study the uses made by Alexander Pope of the caesura, the end stopped line, recurring rime words and identical rimes in six poems: An Essay on Criticism, The Rape of the Lock, The Iliad, III and IX, The Dunciad, The Epistle to Doctor Arbuthnot and the Epilogue to the Satires, and to reconcile the findings with certain of the requirements of "correctness" as stated by the poet.
