Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to answer the question: Would the philosopher Jacques Maritain consider the newspaper human interest story a work of fine art? This question requires not so much the extensive collection of evidence but rather the intensive evaluation of evidence. The intention, therefore, is to probe deeply into a small area, to draw from Maritain's book, Art and Scholasticism, the qualities a work of fine art should possess and to measure, according to these criteria, six human interest stories.
