Abstract
Cross-examination is used both in debate and in legal proceedings. Commentators in both fields have offered suggestions to cross-examiners on the proper content of the cross-examination period. This study will attempt to analyze the suggestions of both debate writers and legal writers on the proper question content of the cross-examination period. After surveying the writers' suggestions, an attempt will be made to compare the ideas offered by the two groups of writers. Because cross-examination has been used for a longer period of time in legal proceedings, the material produced by legal writers is more extensive. Therefore, the comparisons which are made will attempt to show how these more extensive legal suggestions might be utilized by the debater.
