Abstract

It is the purpose of this thesis to study the reports of one event of world significance , the shell1ng of Quemoy, in order to determine whether or not representative newspapers of three world powers presented correct news of this event . Did they report the facts identically? Were the facts distorted to suit the ideologies of the governments? In brief, did these papers use the opportunity, offered in the reporting of the Quemoy shelling, to further world understanding, to increase tensions between nations, or to grind a private propaganda axe?
